COMING SOON?! HELP MAKE IT HAPPEN!
BERNINA Q 20 LONG ARM QUILTING MACHINE
1. Maker Works is getting a Long Arm Quilting Machine!
Maker Works has a unique opportunity to make this amazing machine accessible to artists, students, hobbyists, and small businesses. If we want to do this, we need approximately $1,000 to:
Update the textiles area to support the machine (it’s big!)
Develop the SOPs to support teaching classes and maintaining the machine
Run a couple test classes to ensure we can provide an excellent experience
Thanks to Becky Grover for championing this! In addition to her fiber art, Becky has been running a successful longarm quilting business for 6 years. Now she wants to expand into teaching others how to use this fabulous machine!
2. WHEN will this HAPPEN?
We’re shooting for September of 2025 to teach our first classes. Supporters will be the first to know!

WHAT WILL THE CHECKOUT CLASS COVER?
BERNINA Q 20 LONG ARM QUILTING MACHINE CHECKOUT CLASS
Duration: 3 - 4 hours
Class Size: 2 - 3 people
Price: $100 (Launch price, may change later)
Ages: 16+ (If younger, guardian must attend and purchase a class seat)
This is Becky Grover’s quilt titled “Fragments” All the quilting was done free motion on the Q 20.
This class will introduce you to the Bernina Q 20 Longarm Quilting Machine with a 10' Studio Frame. This machine is ideal for finishing quilts with professional-quality stitching and is great for both large-scale quilting and detailed free-motion work.
The Bernina Q 20 is designed for precision stitching across quilts mounted on a 10-foot frame. Unlike a standard sewing machine, the longarm allows the quilter to move the machine head over the stationary quilt layers, offering greater control and visibility across large surfaces. You'll learn how to:
Load a quilt onto the frame
Wind a bobbin
Thread the machine
Change the needle
How to adjust thread tension
Switch between stitch-regulated, basting, and manual modes
With the successful completion of this class, you’ll be certified to use the Bernina Q 20 Longarm Quilting Machine independently at Maker Works.
People under age 16 may take this tool checkout class with their parent/guardian (both adult and minor must register and pay.) A parent/guardian who has taken the checkout class must also accompany them when operating the tool. Ages 16 and up are encouraged to take checkout classes in any area they wish, with parent/guardian approval.
