Young Makers Tool & Technology Access

Are you a Washtenaw County teen age 13–17? Or part of a group that works with teens in this age range? Through the generous support of the Rotary Club of Ann Arbor, Maker Works is proud to offer free or pay-what-you-can access to our classes and memberships

Maker Works is a community workshop with tools for wood, metal, electronics, textiles, and jewelry. Our goal is to provide you with the training, tools, and space for you to make!

The Details

who is eligible (and a note on age requirements)

Teens ages 13-17 in Washtenaw County are eligible:

  • 13-15 can be in the shop WITH adults who have also gone through any necessary safety training (see below).

  • 16-17 can be in the shop on their own, but must have a liability agreement signed by a guardian.

Classes and Tracks are your gateway to safely using the tools. Explore hands-on learning in woodworking, metalworking, laser cutting, sewing, and more. Use one of the discount codes below when registering for a class:

  • ROTARY25 = 25% off

When you’re ready to use the shop for your own projects, mention “Rotary Membership” at our front desk to receive a free day pass. Teens 13-15 must be accompanied by an adult who has also taken any of the training classes for tools the teen might be using.

  1. Schedule a free tour of the shop. See the tools, meet the staff, and get your questions answered.

  2. Register for a safety training class or track using one of the discount codes above.

  3. Stop by or contact us if you’d prefer to start with a free day pass or need help picking the right class.
