We had a fantastic time at our 2022 Open House! A huge thank you to the staff and members for getting the shop cleaned up the past couple of weeks, and a big thank you to all the people below for helping present a number of amazing resources in Washtenaw County and beyond!

Thank you to Julie Darling, author of “Social-Emotional Learning Using Makerspaces and Passion Projects” for sharing her book! We’re excited to learn that she’s working on three more, so be sure to keep an eye on her upcoming releases.

A shout out to Mike O’Brien & Jason for extending their Detroit Beer Fest work an extra 6+ hours to hang out with us and share their beverages.

Thank you Steve of SouthEast Michigan Woodworkers for hauling some samples over and sharing their Adirondack chair build. They’re looking to do a workshop in the spring!

The numbers "5708" decorated in diagonal rainbow stripes to promote FIRST robotics team 5708, Zebrotics

We can’t forget about the First Robotics team 5708: Zebrotics for bringing out their robot and letting the world drive it around!

Kymm, founder of LullCo who has been running Upholstery workshops in our space the past few weeks brought some magnificent looking chairs and tools of the trade to showcase. She’s also been doing us a huge favor in helping promote the shop and the open house the past few weeks.

Two reupholstered velvet chairs on display, one bright green and one magenta, at the LullCo reupholstery demo.

The Great Maker Race ran smoothly thanks to the efforts of Francis, Tommy, Bob, Merrill, and Brian! We had tons of kids (and kids at heart) create their own foam race cars and send them hurtling down our custom 40 foot track. We even had someone break the 3-second mark!

Hot molten pewter was poured to produce our 11th Anniversary key chain tokens! Thank you Marty, Daniel, and Tonya for keeping the metal flowing. We have a few extra left over at the front desk. Just ask!

A demo unit for the interactive Ferrofluid Magnetoscope by Fun Exhibits

Fun Exhibits brought in a demo unit for their interactive Ferrofluid Magnetoscope, which is on display for just-a-few-more-days in the front of the shop! Thank you Marty & Mic for getting this set up, it was a huge hit.

Finally, some of our fantastic members helped us run tool demos to show off our CNCs in action! Please click through the images below to learn a little bit about those individuals, their backgrounds, and in many cases the businesses they run. Thank you Lindsay for putting this all together!
