Open Maker Night — Meeting at Maker Works

MEETING SCHEDULE — Every 3rd sunday of the month, 4 - 7 pm

Work on projects (without needing any experience) by using our Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)!

OVERVIEW — WHAT IS Open Maker Night?

Open Maker Night is a casual, drop-in event to hang out and/or make things at Maker Works.

  • Free membership for the evening

  • Use any tool that does not require training

  • Use any tool you’re already trained on

Want to try laser cutting some material before taking the laser Tool Training class? A volunteer can do a simple cut for you!

WHAT TO EXPECT AT This Event

Open Maker Night is designed to be self-guided and low-structure. Think of it as a “3-hour free trial” of Maker Works membership every month. You can:

  • Work on personal projects in a shared makerspace

  • Meet and connect with other makers

  • Ask questions, observe, or just explore the shop

Open Maker Night is not a class or guided tour.

  • You won’t receive step-by-step instruction (except for what you find in our tool manuals)

  • Demos from staff are brief and informal

Come and go anytime during the three hours!

Pro tip: If you take at least one Tool Training class ahead of time, you’ll get much more out of the evening!

To see a list of tools that do not require a Tool Training class, read through this page.

Volunteer at Open Maker Night!

If you’re certified on a few tools, help make Open Maker Night a success by volunteering for a shift. You’ll welcome guests, answer questions, and keep things running smoothly in any one of our shop areas (your choice!):

  • Wood, metal, craft (lasers/textiles), jewelry, or electronics

Examples of questions you might be expected to answer:

  • “Can you show me how this machine works?” (a machine in your area)

  • “How does membership work?”

  • “Where are the bathrooms?”

Sign up below for any session you can make it to!
