Step 1: Build it! Wax pen shaping wax ring on wooden mandrel
Step 2: Create pathways for molten metal to travel through! Wax pieces with “sprues” added
How the Series Works
Each session pairs demonstration with hands-on practice. Students work through every stage of the lost wax casting process. You'll sculpt in wax, prepare and invest your own flask, fire the kiln, cast in bronze, and finish your pieces by hand. By the final session, you'll walk away with original bronze jewelry.
Step 3: Put together your wax model! Sprue tree in flask cap
Step 4: Polish!

Safely operate the oxy-acetylene and propane torches
Use a centrifugal caster to pour molten bronze
File, sand, and polish your bronze pieces to a professional finish

Agenda
Session 1: Wax Build by Hand
Learn how to build up and carve wax while sculpting your very own squiggle ring. Leave with a finished wax piece and the skills to make two more wax items on your own before next session.
Session 2: Create Sprue Tree & Invest
Turn your wax sculptures into a casting-ready flask by assembling a sprue tree, mixing and pouring investment, and using the vacuum chamber. By the end, your flask heads into the kiln so it can become a mold for the bronze.
Session 3: Use Torches & Cast
Pour metal! Learn the oxy-acetylene and propane torches to melt down the bronze, then use the centrifugal caster to shoot molten bronze into your flask. Crack it open and see your wax designs come out in metal.
Session 4: File, Sand, & Polish
Learn how to use hand files, sandpaper, and rotary tools like the Dremel and buffing wheel to clean up, refine, and shine your cast pieces. Leave with finished bronze jewelry you made from scratch.
