What IS Maker Works?
Maker Works is Ann Arbor’s largest nonprofit makerspace (AKA hackerspace, tech shop, or DIY workspace). Though there are some other makerspaces in Michigan, there’s no other Maker Works in the world! Think of us as a “gym for tools”. Before using most large tools (saws, laser cutters, and such), you’ll take a straightforward safety checkout class specific to that machine. Afterwards, you can work here on your terms by being a member — whether that’s a day visit, a 10-visit punch pass, an individual month membership, or a larger arrangement for a team. No prior experience is ever required for classes or memberships.
How to get started:
Step 1) Take a free tour!
Drop in for a free guided tour, or sign up in advance and get a 25% discount code on your first class after the tour!
Step 2) Get trained on the tools.
Take the classes that you need (membership not required) in order to safely operate our tools.
Step 3) Use our 14,000 sq ft space!
Once you’re trained on tools, you need membership in order to use them on your own.

Located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Maker Works was established in 2011 to bring a focus back to making things. Under one roof, we have:
a great selection of tools for wood, metal, textiles, plastic, jewelry, and electronics
includes industrial-grade machines like laser cutters, mills, lathes, welders, and more
instruction on the safe and efficient use of these tools
SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for the majority of tools, written and upkept by experienced Maker Works staff
space to make things
a welcoming community of interesting, creative people making things
