Egg Drop (with a Catch) Competition

Date: Sunday, June 22nd
Time: 4 PM - 6 PM

$20 per team
Where: 3765 Plaza Dr, Ann Arbor MI

GOAL: Build a 1x1x1ft contraption that can catch a dropped egg from the farthest distance.

Start from a low height and see whose egg can survive the farthest drop!

Details

Materials Provided:

  • Hot glue sticks & hot glue gun

  • Popsicle sticks

  • Toothpicks

  • Thread

  • 1-9x 1sqft of fabric (not to be crumpled up and wasted)

  • 1 uncooked egg (make it count!)

  • some form of weight (glass beads)

Design Requirements:

  • Must fit within a 1 ft x 1 ft x 1 ft space

  • Only popsicle sticks, toothpicks, melted hot glue, and thread/fabric can be part of the final contraption, but you may use other tools/materials (like clamps) during construction only


 

Agenda

  • 4:00 PM – 4:15 PM: Introduction & Rules

  • 4:15 PM – 5:15 PM: Build Time

  • 5:15 PM – 6:00 PM: Dropping!

Watch Tim drop an “egg” from the mezzanine in this short video. We’re not sure if anyone’s egg will survive from that fall… but we’re happy to be proven wrong!
